Painted Pencils

When trying to decide what to put in the goody bags for Layla's art party, I knew I wanted some sort of pencil. They are inexpensive & duh, you use them to draw! :). Usually I would grab a pack at the Dollar Tree, but I decided to try something different this time. And FREE. (Free as in, I already had everything!).

The pencils were picked up during back to school sales for very cheap. I had the acrylic paints & saran wrap as well.

We squirted each color of paint in random places in the box. (we actually had to switch boxes because the pencils were getting stuck in the middle of that box).

Then Layla dropped the pencils in and shook them!

I laid them on saran wrap to dry since they would be easy to remove if they stuck.

And there you have it! Simple, inexpensive and fun. And the possibilities are endless! You could do red & green for Christmas, black & orange for Halloween, pastels for Easter, pink & red for Valentine's Day... I just the basics since it was an art theme.

And don't forget to enter the Doodlebug Design giveaway!

Doodlebug Designs Giveaway

Judging by how popular buntings are these days, I think you're really going to like my next giveaway. It's from an awesome little Etsy shop called Doodlebug Design. How cute is that hedgehog? Or those robots? The shop is owned by Lauren, and she hand carves all of these stamps! And guess what? She has graciously offered a 10% coupon for my readers! Just enter SUNSHINE10 at checkout to save 10% until 6/1.

You can see how wonderfully my stamp came packaged. And it's a great way to store it afterwards, too!

Here it is! A bunting! Isn't it great?

I was very pleased with the quality of the stamp. It's mounted on nice, solid wood, and the stamp itself is very smooth.

I used it to make signs for all the goodies at Layla's art birthday party. I'd never made them for a party before this, and I was very happy with how they came out.

Here's a close-up of the stamped image so you can see the quality of the stamp.

And there they are in action.

Now how would you like to win your very own bunting stamp? Here's how you can. (Please remember to leave one comment for each entry, and make sure there is a way for me to contact you).

MANDATORY:
Visit Doodlebug Design on Etsy. Come back & leave me a comment with your favorite stamp.

ADDITIONAL ENTRIES:

Layla's Art Birthday

Finally - the art party is here! I'm going to go ahead and tell you, there are a lot of photos in the post! But I wanted to have it all together as opposed to several seperate posts.

First up, the invitations. You can read more about them here.

And of course, the art party wreath.

The goodies.

Didn't these signs turn out cute? The fabulous stamp came from a shop called Doodlebug Design.

The cake. I decided not to flatten out the layers so it has a rounded top. The adorable cake garland came from Shortcake Party Picks.

Now for specifics on the goodies. We had chocolate covered pretzels.

Pretzel M&Ms.

Gummi bears. (you can also see the punched paper table runner I made)

Jelly beans.

White chocolate oreos.

Pickles! Layla loves these, so I thought it would be cute to have at her party.

Chips of course.

She also loves cheese puffs, so they were included. And the rainbow bowl made another appearance.

Biscuit BBQ cups.

You can't have a party without goody bags. The glassine bags came from Le Box Boutique.

Inside we had a painted pencil, glitter glue, a mini chalkboard (I wrote 'thanks for coming' on each one), chalk, sidewalk chalk, a lollipop, Painterz gum, a stamp & playdough.

I punched the confetti out of paint chips.

I got the idea for the doily banner from Meg. I wish the colors would have turned out brighter, like hers did, but I was still happy with it. And the kids had fun painting it.

This is a $1.00 white tablecloth that I taped to a board and propped against the wall.

They also got to paint 5x7 canvases.

This is what the table looked like when they were finished!

We also had shaving cream painting.

Haha, Morgan. Nice!

And that would be Blake.

I guess with that many boys around it doesn't take long for a nice, simple craft to turn into a mess!

They also played football (they all play in the same league as well).

The water wasn't planned, but it was a nice way to get cleaned up.

A slight twist on the rainbow cake.

We used the painted tablecloth for a backdrop. I let her choose the color for this frame. She bypassed the watermelon color for this! I am going to be posting tutorials for some of the things featured, so stay tuned.
